The History
It all began in 1964...WorldStrides was founded by Phil Wendel, a social studies teacher who witnessed firsthand the impact of immersive educational travel on his class. We’ve been chasing that electric feeling ever since.
Since then, for over 55 years, WorldStrides has been the organization of choice for millions of students, parents, and teachers looking for experiential educational travel.
The WorldStrides Difference is Apparent
Make The World Your Classroom
Witness history come to life across our premier heritage destinations—including Washington, D.C., New York City, and Boston; or hands-on STEM in Florida, the Coastal Carolinas and California; or natural science and conservation experiences in Yellowstone, the Grand Canyon and Acadia.

Can you tell me more about student accreditation?
All students in grades 6-12 at the time of travel have the opportunity to enroll in online coursework that is carefully paired with their travel program. Most assignments are designed to be completed after travel, since they ask students to incorporate much of what they learned during the field experience. Courses vary in theme, content, and length based on the travel destination.
Students in grades 6-12 are eligible to enroll in courses to earn high school credit at no additional cost.
Tell me a little more about teacher rewards.
Traveling educators (program leaders and chaperones) are eligible to receive professional development points/hours/continuing education units that can be used toward license recertification. The amount of professional development is awarded based on travel program length. Professional development certificates are offered to program leaders and teacher chaperones at no cost.
Based on the length and nature of your program, you’ll typically earn a professional development certificate for up to 35 points/hours or 3.5 CEUs (5 points/hours per day, or 0.5 CEUs per day).
Our Curriculum & Academics team, in conjunction with our university partner, University of California San Diego (UCSD) Extended Studies, offers traveling educators the opportunity to earn graduate credit by participating in our online course.
